Deacon Ernie Trujillo began his ministry of service as a lay minister to the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish by serving as a Catechist, preparing young Catholics for the Sacrament of Confirmation. He also served as a Lector and Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion.
Deacon Ernie spent 37 years working in law enforcement in the field of corrections. He served in the State of New Mexico and the State of Arizona. He retired in 2019 concluding his career as the Northern Region Operations Director for the Arizona Department of Corrections.
Deacon Ernie attended Arizona State University and is a Certified Public Manager and graduate of the Arizona State University Institute for Public Executives.
Deacon Ernie has served as a member of the Knights of Columbus for 32 years. He has also served in the capacities of Chancellor, Grand Knight and is currently the District Deputy for District 26 in Arizona. He is a member of the Patriotic Degree also known as the Fourth Degree and is referred to as Sir Knight.
In 2004, Deacon Ernie began entered the Diocese of Tucson Deacon Formation Program and completed that program by being ordained as a Permanent Deacon by Bishop Gerald Kicanas on May 31, 2008. He was then assigned to the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish where he has served since ordination.
