On Monday, November 13, members of Sir Michael Fitzgerald Council #5221 Knights of Columbus and Lady Knights from Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish made a pilgrimage to the Women’s Reachout Center in Tucson. Their main purpose was to deliver baby items collected from a baby shower sponsored by the Life Ministry of the Knights of Columbus.
An entire truckload of handmade blankets, stocking caps, clothing, diapers, formula, furniture and many other items were donated to the center on behalf of the Knights and members of the Assumption Parish. Additionally, a check for $430 was presented by Mrs. Susan Stanga to the Center on behalf of the members of the parish and a check for $500 was presented to the Center on behalf of the Knights of Columbus.
The pilgrimage was very moving as the group toured the facility and saw the ultrasound machine used to help women see their babies in the womb before deciding to have an abortion. It was learned that out of 42 encounters with pregnant women last year, Women’s Reachout Center was able to persuade 41 to carry their babies to full term and deliver the babies. The Center provides counseling services to pregnant women, adoption counseling services and provides layettes containing necessities for a mother with a newborn child.
The Life Ministry of the Sir Michael Fitzgerald Council #5221 directly supports the Aid and Support After Pregnancy (ASAP) Program of the Knights of Columbus as a whole.
The loss of someone we love through death is one of the hardest experiences for a human being to go through. Gratefully, we are not merely human beings; we are also touched by the divine gift of immortality. Bereavement is a vital part of the process of recognizing and accepting the deep consolation of our being created for everlasting union with our God who is love.
Martha's Ministry assists parishioners who are going through the grieving process of someone they loved by providing a luncheon reception after the funeral or memorial service.
Family and friends are welcomed into the Parish Hall for lunch and refreshments provided by the dedicated members and volunteers of Martha's Ministry. The option to accept this ministry is part of the funeral process handled by the Parish Office at the time the funeral is scheduled.
Funerals/visitations should be scheduled, planned and coordinated with the respective Heritage Funeral Homes in Florence, Coolidge or Casa Grande or any funeral home of the family's choice.
In simultaneous conjunction with those arrangements, the family of the deceased should immediately contact the Parish Office at 520-868-5940 to schedule/confirm a desired date/time of their loved one's funeral as well as related same-day Church specific offerings to include one, two or all of the following - Rosary, Funeral Mass, Burial.
Following the scheduling of the actual funeral date with the Church, a subsequent meeting at the parish will be set to discuss readings, sharing of personal information about deceased.
The parish Rosary Prayer Group meets every Wednesday at 3:00 PM* in the Church. All are welcome to join and pray the Rosary and Divine Mercy Chaplet.
