When Therese of Lisieux was a little girl, she used a string of beads to count her gifts to Jesus that she offered Him throughout the day. These gifts consisted of prayers, sacrifices, and "good deeds/acts of kindness." Assumption parishioners may now join St. Therese in offering "small things with great love".
Pick up your own Sacrifice Beads and prayer card in the Phelan Hall Sacrifice Beads Display. These beads are a tangible reminder to help us think of God/Jesus throughout the day. Simply pull a bead toward the Crucifix after each "gift".
A gift can be:
A prayer offered up for any intention on behalf of someone else.
A small sacrifice intentionally offered up such as, no sweetener in your coffee, no dessert, no soda with your meal but rather drink water, not doing what you want to do but rather do what someone else would like for you to do.
A good deed such as helping to make diner or helping to clean up after, make a meal from someone who is sick, injured, recovering from surgery or had a baby, visit or call a friend or family member who might be lonely or sad.
Offer what little we have and God can use it to do great things. He wants us to actively participate in His plan of salvation so we need to offer Him our little sacrifices as exemplified by the story of the fish and loaves in Matthew 14:29-37.
